TWIST Water Living Labs

TWIST Water Living Labs are central in the development of the TWIST project because it is where will occur the experimentation process and the development of innovative solutions in wastewater management that will be validated and studied to be implemented in the market.

In the framework of the project will be developed 3 Water Living Laboratories:

L-Lab Spain – Open Water Lab 2. OWL2,
L-Lab France – Laboratoire Vivant du Sud Ouest – LaViSO and
L-Lab Portugal – Urban Living Lab in Lisbon, uL3.

Activities in the Spanish Living Lab

The TWIST Spanish Living Lab has an innovation focus in wastewater treatment and reuse and has been named Open Water Living Lab, OWL2. OWL2 is already working and testing innovative solutions for wastewater treatment, some of them resulting from synergies with other projects. Here we summarize some of the pilots and prototypes that are being developed in TWIST Spanish Living Lab, OWL2: Low carbon wastewater treatment systems OWL2 will host three systems for the treatment of low carbon wastewater: EXTensive systems based on the sun, improved in performance and environmental footprint, with a surface requirement below 1 m2 / PE. Membrane Aerated Biological Reactor pilot OWL2 has tested, during a year, a pilot from the Israeli company Fluence, which treatment system is the MABR (Membrane Aerated Biological Reactor) technology, based on passive aeration, that is, the diffusion of oxygen through membranes using a low pressure aeration flow. Drying sludge with solar energy prototype OWL2, completed the construction of a prototype for drying sewage sludge and leachate through the use of concentration solar technologies. Services of the Portuguese Living Lab

Urban Lisbon Living Lab, UL3, developed under the TWIST project is the Portuguese Living Lab oriented to the creation, exploration and evaluation of innovations in the field of water reuse and resources recovery: water, energy and nutrients, from urban wastewater . The Living Lab will work in several locations in Lisbon, namely in the facilities of Águas do Tejo Atlântico, Instituto Superior de Agronomia and Instituto Superior Técnico. UL3 has the following service portfolio: Research – promoting master’s and doctoral theses with real case studies, challenges to the community Promotion / participation in funded RDI projects Experimentation & Development – experimenting with products, services, pilots in real environments Open days – event organization Training
